Heartfelt
Dear Aunt Ginny, Thank you for coming to my baby shower and for the hand-knit blanket. Having you there meant so much, especially since you were at Mom's shower for me thirty-two years ago. We cannot wait for you to meet her. With love, Tess
Dear Mrs. Lowell, Thank you for coming to Dad's service on Thursday. Your story about the summer he taught your son to fish was the one Mom asked us to repeat afterward. It meant a great deal to our family to have you there. With gratitude, The Brennan Family
Warm
Dear Nadia and Tom, Thank you for coming to my fortieth. You drove two hours in the rain, you stayed until the cake was gone, and Tom's toast is the one everyone is still quoting. It would have been a different party without you. Love, Carrie
Dear Hale family, Thank you for coming to Nora's party on Saturday. She has not stopped talking about the treasure hunt with June, and the craft kit is already open on the kitchen table. Warmly, Becca
Dear Fiona, Thank you for coming to my recital. I could see you in the third row, and knowing you were there helped me get through the Chopin without rushing. The flowers are on my piano. Love, Iris
Dear Friends, Thank you for coming to our anniversary dinner. Forty years is a long time, and so many of you have been part of every one of them. We loved hearing your stories about us, even the ones we had hoped you forgot. With love, Ruth and Abe
Dear Jamie, Thank you for coming to see me in the hospital. Two hours of terrible game shows and your gossip from work were the best medicine I had all week. Love, Pat
Dear Grandma and Grandpa, Thank you for coming to stay with us for the week. The kids loved having you at breakfast every morning, and you left the garden weeded and every tomato staked. We miss you already. With love, Diana, Paul and the kids
Dear Friends of Riverside Food Bank, Thank you for coming to the Harvest Gala. Your bids, your dancing and your generosity raised $42,000, enough to stock the pantry shelves through spring. We are so grateful you spent your evening with us. With gratitude, The Riverside Food Bank Board
Dear Jen and Mark, Thank you for coming all the way from Denver for our wedding. We know what flights cost these days, and having you on the dance floor made the night. With love, Ava and Rob
Casual
Dear Liam, Thank you for coming to my birthday party and for the dinosaur book. My favorite part was when we found the T. rex in the bounce house. Love, Oscar (age 6)
Hi everyone, Thank you for coming to the housewarming! The new place finally feels like ours now that it has been filled with people, and we found the last of the paper plates under the couch this morning. Come back anytime. Love, Jo and Nate
Dear Neighbors, Thank you for coming to the block party on Saturday. We had forty-two people, six grills and one very determined water balloon fight, and we finally know everyone's names. Let's do it again next summer. Cheers, The Delgados at No. 18
Formal
Dear Colleagues, Thank you for coming to my retirement party on Friday. Seeing thirty-one years of coworkers in one room, including some who drove in from the old Fresno office, was the best send-off I could have asked for. With gratitude, Harold Pierce
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Ruiz, Thank you for coming to Marco's graduation open house. It meant a lot to him to have his first-grade teacher's family there, and the card you wrote had him laughing. Sincerely, Ana and Jorge Medina
Dear Ms. Okafor, Thank you for attending our open house at the new studio on Thursday. It was a pleasure to show you the space, and I hope you will join us for the spring workshop series. Best regards, Lena Marsh, Willow Pottery
Dear Attendees, Thank you for joining us at the Valley Small Business Summit. More than 300 of you came for two days of workshops, and the session on hiring your first employee filled the overflow room. Slides from every talk are now on the summit site. With thanks, The Summit Team
Hi there, Thank you for attending yesterday's webinar on retirement planning. The recording and the worksheet are linked below, and you can reply to this email with any questions we did not get to. Best, Marcus Hill
Hi Ellen, Thank you for coming in to meet with us this morning. It was helpful to walk through the floor plan together, and I will send the revised quote by Wednesday. Best, Sam
Dear Pastor Grace, Thank you for coming to bless our new home. Your words in the kitchen, with the whole family crowded around, are something our children will remember. With gratitude, The Nakamura Family
Short & sweet
Thank you so much for coming tonight! It meant a lot to see you there.
Thanks for coming out last night. So glad you made it.
Thank you for coming and celebrating with us. Your being there made the day.
Thank you for being here today. It means so much to all of us.
Thank you for coming! Please take a favor on your way out.
To thank someone for coming, thank them for being there, name one moment you shared, and close warmly. For friends and party guests, a text that night or the next morning is enough. For a funeral, a visit from out of town, or a guest who brought a gift, send a handwritten note within a week or two.
What to write in a thank-you for coming note
Name the moment. “Thank you for coming to my party” is polite. “Thank you for coming, and for the toast everyone is still quoting” tells them they were noticed. If they traveled, say where from. If they brought a gift, name it.
Parties and celebrations
For birthday parties, housewarmings, anniversaries and open houses, a text or group message the next day covers most guests. Guests who brought a gift get a note naming it; our birthday gift thank-you wording has more. For a child’s party, a young child can write one sentence and sign it, or a parent can send a short message to the other parents.
Showers are the exception: shower guests usually brought a gift, so each one gets a written note. See our baby shower and bridal shower wording.
Funerals and memorial services
Thank people who traveled, gave a eulogy or reading, sent flowers, or brought food with a short handwritten note, and mention one thing they said or did. For a large service, a printed acknowledgment card covers the rest. Our funeral and sympathy thank-you wording has more.
Visits and hospital stays
Someone who came to see you in the hospital, or traveled to stay with your family, gave you their time. Name what you did together or how it helped, and if they came from far away, acknowledge the trip. For overnight guests in the other direction, when you were the one staying, see our hospitality thank-you wording.
Business events, meetings and webinars
At work, “thank you for attending” and “thank you for joining us” are the standard phrases. Send a short email within a day or two that includes one highlight, a number if you have one, and something the attendee can use: the slides, the recording, the next date or the follow-up you promised. After a one-on-one meeting, thank them for their time and name the next step with a date.
Fundraisers and community events
Thank guests for their time as well as their money, and report what the event achieved in plain numbers: dollars raised, meals funded, the shelves it will stock. Sign it from a named person or board. For donors specifically, our donation thank-you wording covers acknowledgment letters.
Signs, favor tags and words at the door
“Thank you for coming” on a welcome sign, a favor tag or a slide at the end of an event does not need more. Keep it to one line. If you are speaking at the end of a party or service, a sentence that thanks everyone and names one group (the people who traveled, the friends who cooked) is enough.
Common questions
How do you say thank you for coming?
Thank them for coming, name one moment or detail from the event, and close warmly. A text the same night is fine for friends; a handwritten note suits a funeral, a visit from out of town, or anyone who brought a gift.
Do I need to send a thank-you note to everyone who came to my party?
No. Guests who brought a gift should get a note. For everyone else, a group message or a short text the next day is enough. Write a separate note to anyone who hosted, cooked or helped.
How do you thank people for attending a funeral?
A short handwritten note to people who traveled, spoke, or did something extra is customary. Mention one thing they said or did. For everyone else, a printed acknowledgment card or a note in the funeral program covers it.
How do you thank attendees after an event or conference?
Send an email within a day or two that thanks them for coming, mentions one highlight or number, and gives them something useful, like the slides, the recording or the next date.
What is a professional way to say thank you for coming?
The standard professional phrases are "thank you for attending" and "thank you for joining us". Follow with the purpose of the meeting and the next step.
When should I send a thank-you for coming?
A text that night or the next morning for a party. A card within a week or two for a funeral, a shower or an out-of-town visit. An email within two days for a business event.
