Dear Grandma Linda, Thank you so much for the gorgeous crib set. The colors are perfect for the nursery, and knowing you picked it out yourself makes it even more special. We cannot wait for this little one to use it. With so much love, Mia & Derek

A baby shower thank-you note works best when it mentions the actual gift and connects it to the baby in some small way. It does not need to be long: a few sentences that show you noticed the gift and the person who gave it are enough.

What to write in a baby shower thank-you card

Name the gift, tie it to the baby, and add a line of real warmth for the person. A line like “the tiny onesies already have a spot in the nursery, and we cannot wait to see this little one in them” beats a generic thanks because it puts the gift to use. One or two sentences per card is plenty, even when the stack is tall.

Wording for group gifts and gifts you cannot place

Coworkers often chip in together, and a single warm note to the whole group is the right call. When you cannot remember who gave what, lean on the person rather than the present. A note thanking someone for their thoughtfulness and for celebrating with you still feels personal, even without the gift named.

Don’t forget the person who hosted

In the rush to thank everyone for gifts, the host of the shower is easy to overlook. They are often owed the warmest note of all. Thank them for the work they put in and name one detail of the day they pulled together.

Common questions

How long do I have to send baby shower thank-you notes?

Two to three weeks after the shower is ideal. If you are still writing notes after the baby arrives, a short apology line ("life got wonderfully chaotic") will be understood by anyone who has had a newborn.

What if I do not remember who gave which gift?

Check with whoever kept a gift list during the shower, or look at your registry for clues. If you cannot figure it out, a warm, general thank-you that focuses on the person's presence and generosity still goes a long way.

Should you thank the person who hosted the baby shower?

Yes, and it is easy to forget in the rush of gift thank-yous. The host put real time and money into the day, so they should get a separate note thanking them for hosting, not just for any gift. Mention a specific detail of the shower they pulled off.
