Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure
Last updated: July 29, 2026
WordThanks is free to read. It pays for itself two ways: display advertising and affiliate links. You deserve to know which is which, so here it is in full.
Display advertising
We show ads supplied by Google AdSense. We choose where ad slots sit on the page, but we do not choose the individual ads, and an advertiser appearing here has not paid us for coverage or endorsement. If an ad looks like editorial content, that is a mistake on our part and we would like to hear about it.
Affiliate links
WordThanks is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
In practice that means if you follow a product link from one of our gift guides and buy something, Amazon pays us a small percentage. The price you pay is exactly the same. You are never charged extra for arriving through us.
Affiliate links live almost entirely in the gift guides. The wording examples, occasion pages, and etiquette guides are the heart of this site and carry no affiliate links at all.
What this does not change
No brand can pay to appear in a gift guide, and no brand sees our writing before it publishes. We have not been given free products in exchange for coverage. When we suggest a gift it is because it fits the occasion the page is about.
We would rather lose a commission than recommend something that does not suit the moment. A thank-you gift is a small thing that carries real feeling, and pointing you at the wrong one to make a few cents would be a bad trade.
Editorial independence
Our wording examples are written for this site. We do not accept payment for placement within the etiquette guidance, and we do not publish sponsored posts. If that ever changes, this page changes first and the sponsored content will be labeled clearly on the page itself.
