Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 29, 2026

WordThanks is published by Frog Stone Media. This page explains what happens to your information when you read the site, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.

The short version

Information we collect

We do not run user accounts, logins, or newsletters, so we collect no names, passwords, or payment details. The information that does reach us falls into two groups.

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages people find useful. It is a privacy-focused, cookieless analytics tool. It does not set tracking cookies, does not build a profile of you, and does not follow you to other websites. It records aggregate details such as the page requested, the referring site, and a general region.

Advertising

We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners set cookies and use similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on that activity.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of a wider set of third-party vendors at aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org. Opting out does not remove ads, it only makes them less specific to you.

Google's own explanation of how it handles data on partner sites is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Cookies and local storage

A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser. We do not set our own tracking cookies. The cookies you may pick up here come from Google's advertising systems, described above.

Separately, the Note Builder and Saved Notes features use your browser's local storage to remember the wording you have saved. Local storage is not a cookie and is not transmitted anywhere. It lives on your device, it is readable only by this site, and clearing your browser data erases it. If you never use those features, nothing is stored.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not break the site.

Affiliate links

Some pages, mainly the gift guides, contain affiliate links to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Following one of those links sends you to Amazon, where Amazon's own privacy policy governs what happens next. Full details are on our disclosure page.

Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

If you are in California

The California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to request that it be deleted, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information. The sharing of advertising identifiers with our ad partners may count as sharing under California law, and you can opt out using the advertising links above or by contacting us.

If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area

Under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR you may request access to any personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or erase it, object to how it is processed, or lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. Where we rely on consent, for example for personalized advertising, you may withdraw it at any time. Our lawful basis for the limited analytics we run is legitimate interest in understanding which pages are useful.

Data retention and security

We hold no database of readers, so there is nothing about you for us to retain or lose. Aggregate analytics are kept by Ahrefs under their own retention schedule. The site is served over HTTPS.

Changes to this policy

When we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant we will say so plainly rather than quietly editing the text.

Contact

Questions about privacy, or a request to exercise any of the rights above, can go to mike@frogstonemedia.com. We answer personally.
