Heartfelt
To the firefighters of Station 12, Thank you for everything you did the night of the fire. You ran toward the danger the rest of us were running from, and because of you, what we lost was only things. My family is safe, and that is entirely down to you. We will never forget it. With deepest gratitude, The Ueda Family
To the paramedics who came on Tuesday, Thank you for the calm, skilled care you gave my father. In the most frightening moments of our lives, you were steady, kind, and quick, and you gave us more time with him. There is no way to repay that, only to say thank you with our whole hearts. With gratitude, The Barakat Family
To the dispatcher who took my call, Thank you for staying on the line with me and keeping me calm until help arrived. I do not know your name, but I will never forget your steady voice. You do a hard job that few people see, and you did it beautifully. With gratitude, Delphine Gallagher
To the EMTs who saved my life, I am writing this because of you. Thank you for the speed and calm that got me to the hospital in time. I am home, I am healing, and I owe that to your hands. Thank you does not feel like enough, but it is what I have. With everything, Nikolai Yarborough

To everyone at the firehouse, Thank you for all you do for our community, day in and day out, often without hearing much thanks. We wanted to drop off a small token and a big thank-you. We sleep better knowing you are there. With appreciation, The Bjornsson Family
Dear first responders, Thank you for keeping our town safe! We made you cards because you are real-life heroes. Thank you for being brave and helping people. From all of us in Room 5. With thanks, Ms. Alvarez's Class
Formal

Short & sweet
To the crew of Engine 7, Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. We are grateful beyond words. With respect, The Vances
First responders show up on ordinary days that turn out to be the worst days of someone’s life. A thank-you note, whether for a specific rescue or for years of quiet service, tells a firefighter, officer, paramedic, or dispatcher that their work was seen.
What to write to a first responder
Lead with the specific if you have it: the fire they put out, the call they answered, the calm they brought to a terrifying moment. Then say what it meant to you and your family. If you are thanking a station for general service, simply naming the risk they take and the peace of mind they give is enough.
Dropping off a note at a station
A handwritten card left at the firehouse or precinct brightens a shift, and it is a tradition to bring food along with it. Address it to the whole crew, or to a specific engine or shift if you know it. Stations especially welcome a box of cards from a classroom of kids.
When you do not know their name
You rarely catch the name of the person who helped you in an emergency, and that is no reason to skip the thanks. Address your note to the station, the department, or the crew that came, with a detail like the date or the situation. The date, time and address help the station work out which crew responded, so the note can reach them.
Common questions
What do you write in a thank-you card for first responders?
Thank them for the specific thing they did or for their ongoing service, and say what it meant to you and your family. You do not need formal language. A sincere note that names a real moment, or simply acknowledges the risk they take, is what lands. Short and heartfelt is perfect.
How do you thank firefighters or police at their station?
A handwritten note dropped off at the station is appreciated, and many people bring food or treats for the crew along with it. Address it to the whole station or a specific engine or shift if you can. A kid's drawing or a class set of cards is especially welcome.
Can you bring food to a fire station as a thank-you?
Yes, and it is a long-standing way to show appreciation. Baked goods, a meal, or coffee for the crew are all welcome, paired with a card. If you want to be sure of timing or dietary needs, a quick call to the non-emergency line never hurts.
How do I thank a first responder when I do not know their name?
Address your note to the station, department, engine number, or shift instead. Something like "To the paramedics who came on Tuesday" gives the station what it needs to pass the note to the right crew.
