Heartfelt

Dear Rosa, Thank you for being there through these last few months. You drove me to every chemo appointment on Tuesdays, sat with me through the long ones, and never once made it feel like a favor. I am finished with treatment now, and I could not have held it together without you in that passenger seat. With love and gratitude, Helen
Friend, during an illness Personalize
Dear Tobias, Thank you for the late-night phone calls this spring. When the divorce papers came through, you were the one person I could say anything to, and you never told me what I should have done. I am in a much better place now, and a lot of that is you. Love, Gwen
Friend, through a divorce Personalize
Dear Aunt Leticia, Thank you for your support after we lost Mom. You handled the calls, the food and the guest list when none of us could think straight, and you still found time to sit with each of us alone. We are so grateful to have you. With love, Isabel, Diego and Ana
Family, after a death Personalize
Dear Mom and Dad, Thank you for supporting me through nursing school. The rent checks, the care packages before every exam and the Sunday calls when I wanted to quit all got me to graduation day. I passed my boards on Thursday, and I wanted you to be the first people I thanked. All my love, Keiko
Parents, financial and moral support Personalize
Dear Pastor Lyle and the Grace Church family, Thank you for your prayers and support while I was in the hospital. The meals, the cards on my nightstand and the visits from the prayer group carried me through. I am home and getting stronger every week. In Christ, Marjorie

Dear Sasha, Thank you for always being in my corner. You were at the finish line of my first marathon, the opening of my first show, and the bad night after the gallery closed. I do not say it enough, so here it is in writing. Love, Theo
Best friend Personalize
Dear Nathan, Thank you for your support this year, in the big moments and the small ones. You picked up every school run while I studied for the bar, and you never complained once. I passed, and half of it is yours. All my love, Priya

Warm

Dear Corinne, Thank you for everything you did after I lost my job. You sent my résumé to three people, practiced interview questions with me over coffee, and kept reminding me I was good at what I do. I start at Fairhaven on Monday. Dinner is on me. Gratefully, Mateo
Friend, after a job loss Personalize
Dear Grandpa Joe, Thank you for the help with the down payment. Leah and I got the keys on Friday, and the first thing we did was pick out the spot on the porch for a rocking chair with your name on it. With love and thanks, Nolan and Leah
Family, financial help Personalize
Dear Felix and Ana, Thank you for giving up your whole Saturday to help us move. Three flights of stairs, a sleeper sofa and the piano is a lot to ask of anyone, and you did it with jokes. The pizza does not come close to covering it, so the next move you make, we are there. Thanks again, Jordan and Sky
Friends who helped you move Personalize
Dear Jill, Thank you for taking the kids on such short notice when Dad went into the hospital. Knowing they were safe, fed and probably having more fun than they should was the one thing I did not have to worry about that night. With so much gratitude, Renée
Neighbor, emergency childcare Personalize
Team, Thank you for your support through the system migration. Six weekends, two rollbacks and one very long Tuesday night, and every one of you showed up. We went live on schedule because of the work you put in. Lunch is on me Friday. Thanks, Raymond

Dear Friends and Neighbors, Thank you for your support of the Maple Street library fundraiser. Together you gave $14,200, which pays for the new children's section and a year of Saturday story hours. Thank you to every one of you who baked, bid and showed up. With thanks, The Friends of Maple Street Library

Dear Valued Customers, Thank you for your continued support of Fern and Fig. This spring marks our fifth year on Elm Street, and many of you have been coming in since the week we opened. Your orders, reviews and recommendations to friends are what keep a small shop like ours open. With gratitude, Margo and the Fern and Fig team

Dear Kate and Liam, Thank you for helping us through the first weeks with the baby. The freezer meals, the 6 a.m. walk so we could sleep and the laundry you folded without asking were exactly what we needed. With love and sleepy thanks, Marta and Josh

Casual

Hi Dev, Thank you for jumping in on the Q3 report. You rebuilt the forecast tab in an afternoon when I was out sick, and the numbers were cleaner than mine would have been. I owe you one, and I mean it. Thanks, Simone
Coworker, help with a project Personalize
Dear Coach Ramirez, Thank you for your support this season. Even when I was riding the bench in September, you kept telling me my footwork was getting better, and you were right. Starting in the final game was the best moment of my year. Thanks, Eli

Formal

Dear Mr. Bayliss, Thank you for stopping when our car went into the ditch on Route 9 last Tuesday. You stayed with us in the cold until the tow truck came and let the kids sit in your truck with the heat on. We do not know your first name, but we will not forget your kindness. With sincere thanks, The Moreno family

Dear Carla, Thank you for your support this year. When my father was ill you gave me the flexibility to work from his house for six weeks without making me ask twice, and I know you covered for me in meetings I missed. I am grateful to work for someone who puts people first. Sincerely, Ahmed
Boss, during a hard time Personalize
Dear Ms. Whitfield, Thank you for your guidance and support over the past three years. Your advice to take on the Denver account before I felt ready is the reason I am confident enough to apply for this promotion. I hope I can do the same for someone else one day. With gratitude, Lena Park

Dear Dr. Huang, Thank you for supporting my application to the graduate program. Your letter made a difference, and I was accepted on Monday. I am grateful for the time you took to write it during a busy semester. Sincerely, Olivia Brandt

Thank you to everyone who voted, knocked on doors and made calls this fall. We came up short by 312 votes, but the work you did put this neighborhood's issues on the ballot, and I am proud to have run alongside you. With thanks, Daniel Okafor

Text to a friend Personalize

To thank someone for their support or help, name what they did and what it made possible, then say how you are doing now. “Thank you for driving me to every appointment this spring” is stronger than “thank you for all your support.” For a big kindness, send a handwritten card within a few weeks; for a quick favor, a text or email the same day is enough.

Name what they did

“Thank you for your support” is the phrase people reach for when they are not sure how to describe what someone did. The note gets better the moment you describe it: the rides, the calls, the résumé they forwarded, the Saturday they gave up. If you cannot name a concrete thing, name the moment when their support mattered most (“the week the results came back”).

Then add one line about the result. Support is often invisible to the person giving it, because they only see their part. Telling them you finished treatment, got the job or made it through the first month lets them see what their help added up to.

Thank you for your support during a difficult time

After an illness, a loss, a divorce or a job loss, the people who showed up often never hear how it turned out. A note a few weeks or months later, once you are on steadier ground, closes that loop. You do not need to retell the hard part. One clause (“these last few months,” “after we lost Mom”) is enough context, and the rest of the note can be about what they did.

If many people helped, a group message or social media post can cover everyone, followed by handwritten cards for the few who carried the most. For thanks after a death specifically, our funeral and sympathy thank-you wording covers flowers, meals and donations, and get-well thank-you wording covers recovery.

Thanking family and friends for support

With people close to you, the risk is assuming they already know. Write it down anyway. Parents who helped with tuition, a partner who took on more at home while you studied, a friend who answered every late-night call: each of them did it without being asked to, and a card that names the specific sacrifice is one they are likely to keep.

For money (a down payment, rent, tuition), say what it made possible without naming the amount, the same way you would for a cash gift. Our friendship thank-you wording has more for friends.

Thank you for your help with a move, an emergency or a favor

Practical help deserves a practical thank-you. Name the job (three flights of stairs, the kids at midnight, the jump start) and, if you mean it, offer to return the favor in kind. For a stranger who helped in an emergency, a note through a mutual contact, a local paper, or the business where they work is worth the effort, because they rarely find out how things turned out.

Thank you for your support at work

At work, specific beats warm. Thank a coworker for the task and its result (“you rebuilt the forecast tab, and the numbers were cleaner than mine”), and copy their manager if the help was substantial. That way the thanks reaches the person who writes their review.

For a boss, thank them for one decision: the flexibility during a family illness, the project they backed you on, the promotion they pushed for. Our boss thank-you wording has more, and for a mentor or reference, say where their advice or letter led. If you are the manager thanking a team, name the stretch they got through and the outcome, and keep it short enough to read on a phone.

Thank you for your continued support (customers, donors and communities)

“Thank you for your continued support” is standard business and nonprofit phrasing, and it is fine in a newsletter, an anniversary post or a year-end letter. Make it specific with a number or a fact your readers will recognize: five years on Elm Street, $14,200 raised, the children’s section it will pay for. Sign it from a person or a named team. For one-to-one customer notes, see our customer appreciation wording.

Other ways to say thank you for your help

If “thank you for your help” feels thin, try one of these, each followed by what the person did:

  • I appreciate you making the time.
  • I could not have finished this without you.
  • You saved me a full day of work.
  • I owe you one.
  • Your help got this over the line.
  • I am grateful you stepped in.
  • Thank you for having my back.

For support specifically: “thank you for being in my corner,” “thank you for standing by me,” and “thank you for believing in me” all work in personal notes, and “I appreciate your support on this” works in a work email.

When to send it

For a quick favor, the same day, by text or email. For help through something long (an illness, a move, a hard year), within a few weeks of things settling, by card. A late note is still welcome, and it often lands better when you can report how things turned out. If the support came with prayers, our thank-you prayers page has wording for people who prayed for you.

Common questions

How do you say thank you for your support?

Name what the person did and what it made possible. "Thank you for driving me to every appointment this spring" says more than "thank you for your support", and adding what it meant to you, in one sentence, finishes the note.

What can I say instead of "thank you for your help"?

Try "I appreciate you making the time", "I could not have finished this without you", "you saved me a full day of work", or "I owe you one". At work, naming the specific task and its result works better than a stronger adjective.

How do you thank someone for their support during a difficult time?

Name the hardest stretch and the concrete thing they did during it, like the calls, the meals or the rides. Then tell them how you are doing now. People who supported you through something hard want to know you came out the other side.

How do you thank your boss for their support?

Thank them for one specific decision, such as flexibility during a family illness or backing you on a project, and say what it allowed you to do. Keep it to a few sentences, and send it by email or card rather than saying it in a meeting.

Is "thank you for your continued support" too formal?

It is standard for businesses, donors and customers, and fine in a newsletter or letter. For a friend or coworker it reads stiff, so say what they did instead.

Should I send a card or a text to thank someone for their help?

A text is fine for a quick favor or a coworker who covered a meeting. For help through an illness, a loss, a move or money, a handwritten card is the better choice, because it can be kept.

How do I thank people who supported me on social media?

A single post thanking everyone who reached out works well, followed by personal messages to the people who did the most. Mention what helped (the meals, the visits, the messages) without naming people who may want privacy.
